I am moving apartments again. I counted. This is the 15th change. My friends think that it is a useless observation, yet for reasons, it matters to me.

I have been changing beds ever since boarding school. Every school year we were assigned a new bed. Sometimes the dorms changed, sometimes it was in a special annex, sometimes there were new people in the adjacent beds. In class 4, it was Daniel who slept in the adjacent bed. In his culture people ate live insects and he sometimes showed-off to us. In class 6, it was special because it was the first time I sneaked a radio into the boarding school to listen at night. In class 7 it was a special annex. In class 8, I got a torch to study at night. In class 10, my bed was next to the window and I sneaked in a MP3 player.

Dorm in my boarding school

Class 11 was special because it was a new boarding school and the craziest set of roommates I have ever come across. One who believed in Astral Planes and another who I sneaked out of school with for food and movies and another who went from can’t peel a banana to snorting ecstasy.

Drawing on my cupboard!

College was crazy because my freshman roommate played shadow badminton in the mornings. Sophomore year roommate always had crazy ideas and got an air-conditioner and rewired the hostel MCB to illegally have it in the room. Junior year roommate was the quietest ever. We never had a conversation. Senior year was my own room, where I illegally kept an induction cooker to cook dinner with friends.

College Senior Year room with the hidden induction cooker.

Then my studio apartment in Noida, where I learned to live and cook on my own, deal with a landlord and have an air conditioner.

And my apartment during my masters, where I set up furniture and lived with a different set of roommates with anger issues and an apartment with thinner walls. Now, I am shifting again. For another adventure !

The room I am moving out of.
